After the Opposition parties raised questions, the union government released the agenda for the special five-day session of Parliament starting on Monday, September 18. The session will discuss the 75-year history of parliament and legislative matters concerning the clearing of four bills, government announced.

The document published in the bulletins of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha states that there will be discussion in both houses on the topic, “Parliamentary Journey of 75 years starting from Samvidhan Sabha – Achievements, Experiences, Memories and Learnings.”

The passage of four bills includes the Chief Election Commissioner and other Election Commissioners (Appointment, Conditions of Service and Term of Office) Bill, The Post Office Bill, The Advocates (Amendment) Bill, and The Press and Registration of Periodicals Bill.

The programme scheduled is tentative and are subjected to change. Besides, on September 17, a day before the five-day session, the government organised a meeting of the floor leaders of all political parties, Pralhad Joshi, Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, said.

The invitation has been sent to all the concerned leaders in positions via email, and Mr. Joshi has shared it on the social media platform X (previously Twitter). He posted: “Amid Amrit Kaal, looking forward to having fruitful discussions and debate in Parliament.”

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh, sharing the agenda for the special session on the X, writes that after much pressure from the side of Congress, the Modi government agreed to release the agenda for the special session.

He added that it “is much ado about nothing,” and all it could have waited for the winter session in November.
Mr. Ramesh also added that there is a lot behind the curtains. “Parde ke peeche kuch aur hai!” and he ends the post by saying that nonetheless, “the INDIA parties will steadfastly oppose the insidious CEC Bill.”
