Gruesome Murder Of Bangladesh MP; Police Says He Was Honey-Trapped

The murder of Bangladesh MP, Anwarul Azim Anar in Kolkata shook both India and Bangladesh. The MP”s dismembered body was found in an apartment in Kolkata. It was found with skin peeled, body parts chopped and stuffed into plastic bags, which was dumped across the city. Who, why, and where of the gory murder has been troubling police officers of Kolkata and Dhaka for the past few days.

Anwarul Azim Anar entered India on May 12 for medical check-up, and was last seen on May 13, when he went to visit his friend, Gopal Biswas, in Bidhannagar, said media report. According to a family friend in Bidhannagar, Azim mentioned about travelling to Delhi. There were no physical presence of him, and only mobile messages were exchanged between MP and his family back home and friends in Bidhannagar.

Reportedly, on May 16, the MP called his assistant, but could not connect and later when the latter tried to call back, he did not answer. This led his friend to lodge police complaint. As per the report, the MP was last seen at a high-end apartment complex in New Town, on the outskirts of the Bengal capital, where he was likely murdered.

The police from Kolkata may have found progress on the question of who behind the murder. According to the police, an illegal Bangladeshi immigrant named Jihad Hawladar confessed about his involvement in the killing and the dismemberment of the body. Hawladar was arrested and he has directed the police to at least four other Bangladesh nationals who may have been involved in the murder.

The list includes, a US citizen of Bangladeshi origin, Akhtaruzzaman Shahin, who is believed to be the mastermind behind the crime. He might have paid Rs 5 crore to the killers.

The Dhaka police may have cracked an answer to the question of how Anar was lured to his death. They are looking into the role of Shilasti Rahman, the woman who they believe to be involved with one of the killers and might have “honey-trapped” the Anar.

CCTV footage of the apartment from which the MP”s body parts was recovered showed him entering the flat with a woman.

Rahman is under the custody of Dhaka police. She was also known to be the girlfriend of Shahin. The latter”s location is unknown and is presumed to be in US. The apartment in question was rented to a friend of Shahin by the owner, who is a state government employee, said media report.

In a shocking revelation of the gruesome murder, Hawladar claimed that he and his accomplices killed Anar, skinned the body, removed flesh, and minced it to remove any possibility of identification. The remains like bones were cut into small pieces and were packed into plastic bags and dumped across Kolkata. The police believe that some of the body parts were stored in refrigerator in the apartment before they could be dumped. CCTV footage showed one of the accused leaving the flat with a large suitcase, as reported by media.
