Home Minister of Bangladesh, Asaduzzaman Khan confirms that, Anwarul Azim Anar, MP from the country”s Jhenaidah-4 constituency, was killed in Kolkata. The body is yet to be recovered and probe is under way, Khan told reporters. He made the remarks while talking to reporters at Dhaka. The minister also added that three persons were arrested in connection with the murder, said Bangladesh Newspaper Daily Star.
“So far, we have come to know that all the killers involved are Bangladeshis. It was a planned murder,” the Bangladesh Home Minister said.
Reportedly, the dismembered body of Anar was recovered by the Kolkata police eight days after he went missing in India. The MP”s body was cut into pieces, some of which was recovered from an apartment in Sanjeeva Garden, which is located in Kolkata”s New Town. The police said that the murder was premeditated, as reported by the Business Standard.
According to the report, the apartment belonged to an excise duty official. Earlier Khan said that Bangladesh was yet to confirm the information regarding recovering the body from India, and will inform once everything is confirmed.
Anwarul Azim Anar entered India on May 12 for medical check-up, and was last seen on May 13, when he went to visit his friend in Bidhannagar, said media report. According to a family friend in Bidhannagar, Azim mentioned about travelling to Delhi. There were no physical presence of him, and only mobile messages were exchanged between MP and his family back home and friends in Bidhannagar.
Reportedly, on May 16, the MP called his assistant, but could not connect and later when the latter tried to call back, he did not answer. This led his friend to lodge police complaint.
