Heavy Pakistan Shelling "Ongoing" In Poonch After Operation Sindoor; 11 Killed, Many Injured

While Pakistan has confirmed that at least 26 people have been killed in India's strikes, the shelling from Pakistan has killed at least ten civilians, as per multiple reports citing senior police officials.

Heavy Pakistan Shelling "Ongoing" In Poonch After Operation Sindoor; 11 Killed, Many Injured

Poonch, Jammu and Kashmir: India carried out military strikes in Pakistan and Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) on Wednesday in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack. After India launched missile strikes inside Pakistan, heavy shelling is being reported from Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch from the Pakistan border areas.

While Pakistan has confirmed that at least 26 people have been killed in India’s strikes, the shelling from Pakistan has killed at least 11 civilians, as per multiple reports citing senior police officials. Over 45 people have also been wounded in the shelling and civilians are being evacuated to Surankote while some are moving to their relatives’ houses.

The Pakistan attacks were not only restricted to Poonch, but nearby Rajouri district in Jammu region, and Uri, Karnah and Tangdhar sectors in Kupwara district, according to a report by Decan Herald. The indiscriminate shelling is continuing and the attack has left a trail of destruction including damaging dozens of houses, book shops, vehicles, among others. The attack against residents in Poonch started around 2 am in the entire border belt, with inhabitants running for cover after being woken up by the deafening sounds of shelling.

Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah said that they are closely monitoring the LoC situation, tailoring the response as needed. He said he took an assessment of the situation from the Poonch police, adding that more ambulances are deploying in the area and blood supplies are being ensured.

The chief minister further said that the government was not able to do more as the shelling was “ongoing” in the border region. The chief minister said that he has directed immediate release of contingency funds to all Deputy Commissioners in the light of current developments. “Officials have been instructed to counter misinformation and urge the public to rely only on verified sources. Let’s stand united and resilient,” Omar Abdullah wrote on X.
