As the Supreme Court is considering a clutch of petitions challenging the abrogation of Article 370 of the Constitution, several leaders of Jammu and Kashmir have claimed they have been put under house arrest. National Conference leader Omar Abdullah shared pictures of the chains put on his gate and also denied the claim of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha that no one has been arrested or put under house arrest.
Dear Mr LG these chains that have been put on my gate have not been put by me so why are you denying what your police force has done. It’s also possible you don’t even know what your police is doing? “Dear Mr LG these chains that have been put on my gate have not been put by me so why are you denying what your police force has done,” wrote Omar Abdullah on X on December 11, while sharing the images of the chains put on his gate. “It’s also possible you don’t even know what your police is doing? Which one is it? Are you being dishonest or is your police acting independent of you?” added the National Conference leader.
Earlier, the People”s Democratic Party (PDP) wrote on X that their president, Mehbooba Mufti, was put under house arrest on Monday ahead of the verdict. However, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha denied all these claims. “This is totally baseless. No one has been put under house arrest or arrested due to political reasons in J&K,” ANI quoted Manoj Sinha as saying. The Lieutenant Governor also reportedly added that it was an attempt to spread rumours. At the same time, security measures have been enhanced across Jammu and Kashmir. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court asked the central government to hold elections in Jammu and Kashmir by September 30, 2024, and restore statehood at the earliest.
