Isha Foundation Moves SC To Prevent Media Outlet From Publishing Defamatory Content

New Delhi: Isha Foundation, run by spiritual leader Sadhguru, on Wednesday approached the Supreme Court seeking to restrain Tamil media outlet Nakkheeran Publications from continuing to publish defamatory content against it.

The petition was filed on Wednesday before a bench of Justices Surya Kant and Joymalya Bagchi by Senior Advocate Mukul Rohatgi, who represents the Isha Foundation. After hearing the petition, the court listed the matter for next Monday, Live Law reported.

In 2024, the foundation filed a defamation suit against Nakkheeran Publications before the Delhi High Court, alleging that some of its content smeared the Foundation’s reputation. The foundation’s suit sought Rs.3 crores in damages from the publication.

Following this, Nakkheeran Publications filed a transfer petition before the Supreme Court, demanding the transfer of the defamation case from Delhi to Chennai. Notably, the foundation has now moved the top court seeking to prevent the media from publishing any defamatory content by it.

The Isha foundation stated that the media outlet is continuing its “vilification campaign” against the foundation, noting that it has filed a transfer petition before the Supreme Court, saying that the defamation suit ought to be pursued in Chennai. The lawyer also pointed out that a chamber judge had issued a notice of the publication’s transfer plea and contended that the aforesaid cannot be a ground for transfer.

The lawyer further questioned why the moving transfer and urged to stop carrying on this defamatory campaign if it wants the jurisdiction of this Court to be utilized. “We are a charitable organization with disciples all across the world… “Today, on social media, he’s going on and on…” he added.
