Kailash Mansarovar Yatra To Resume: Rajnath Singh Meets Chinese Counterpart

On the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit, the two leaders discussed the restarting of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra and emphasised the need to avoid "adding new complexities" to the relationship between the two countries.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh held a “constructive and forward-looking exchange of views” with his Chinese counterpart Admiral Dong Jun on bilateral relations in Qingdao.

On the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit, the two leaders discussed the restarting of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra and emphasised the need to avoid “adding new complexities” to the relationship between the two countries.

In a post on X, Singh wrote, “Held talks with Admiral Don Jun, the Defence Minister of China, on the sidelines of SCO Defence Ministers’ Meeting in Qingdao. We had a constructive and forward looking exchange of views on issues pertaining to bilateral relations.

“Expressed my happiness on restarting of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra after a gap of nearly six years. It is incumbent on both the sides to maintain this positive momentum and avoid adding new complexities in the bilateral relationship,” Minister further added.

Following the discussion, they have decided to resume the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra. The pilgrimage was initially suspended in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic and subsequently following the Galwan Valley clash.

During the meeting, Defence Minister also presented a Madhubani painting from Bihar to Qingdao.
