Anand Mahindra, Chairperson of Mahindra Group, today penned a short note mourning the death of Vineet Nayyar, former executive Vice Chairman of Tech Mahindra. Aged of 85, Nayyar died on Thursday. Expressing personal gratitude for Vineet”s wisdom and leadership, Anand Mahindra thanked him for committing crowning part of his career to the Mahindra Group. He also thanked the late businessman, for his friendship.
Taking to his social media platform X (formerly Twitter), the Indian billionaire said that the news of the Vineet Nayyar”s passing saddened him, noting that Vineet was “larger than life figure in the Indian business landscape.”
The businessman then explained a short profile along with the role played by the former bureaucrat across different sectors and portfolios. “A distinguished IAS officer, who then served with the World Bank, he became the first Chairman of GAIL. He then made a hugely successful transition to the private sector becoming the Managing Director of HCL Corporation Ltd., and the Vice Chairman of HCL Technologies Ltd. And it was from there that he and two of his close colleagues journeyed to Mahindra British Telecom. We called them the Three Musketeers! They came in with a startup mentality, determined to take MBT (which they renamed Tech Mahindra) into the top ranks of the Indian IT industry—and that’s exactly what they did. Most notably by the bold acquisition of Satyam, a deal spearheaded by Vineet,” wrote the Chairman of the Mumbai-based business conglomerate.
In addition to the Mahindra Chairman, many other industry leaders also expressed their condolence, taking note of the moments with the late businessman. Known for spearheading many innovative projects, Vineet Nayyar had an accomplished life in his domain.
