Meenakshi Lekhi To A Kerala Youth Audience: Chant Bharat Mata Ki Jai Or Leave

Union Minister of State for External Affairs Meenakshi Lekhi, lost her cool at a youth crowd on Saturday as they were being reluctant to chant Bharat Mata Ki Jai slogan. The incident occurred at the inaugural function of the ‘Awake Youth Conclave 2024’ held in Kandamkulam Jubilee Hall in Kerala”s Kozhikode. While concluding her speech, the Minister chanted Bharat Mata Ki Jai aloud, and scattered response from the audience, despite repeatedly asking, has visibly agitated Meenakshi Lekhi.

The lukewarm response from the crowd was not expected by the senior BJP leader, so she asked whether Bharat was not their home. “Is Bharat only my mother or your mother as well? Tell me…Tell me…Is there any doubt? No doubt?…Enthusiasm needs to be expressed,” Minister said.

Even when she repeated the slogan, she said that the response was still feeble. The BJP leader, then, directed a lady in a yellow attire to stand up and participate in the chanting or leave. “The lady in yellow (dress) can stand up. Don”t look on to the sides. This is how I am going to speak to you. I am going to ask you a straight question. Bharat is not your mother?… Why this attitude?”, the Minister asked.

As the lady refused to respond, Meenakshi Lekhi said: “I think you should leave the house. ”

Continuing further, BJP leader said that someone “who has no pride in the nation,” and who finds it embarrassing to speak about India, need not be part of the youth conclave.

The youth conclave was organised by the Nehru Yuva Kendra, The conclave was organised by the Nehru Yuva Kendra, an autonomous organisation under Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Khelo India, and Tapasya.
