Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Friday sent legal notice to Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge and party general secretary Jairam Ramesh. The BJP leader cited that the Congress leaders have shared “twisted, distorted” version of one of his interviews on X.
Balendu Shekar, Gadkari’s lawyer said that the BJP leader was shocked to see the 19-second video propagated in entirely different narration. Gadkari said that Congress posted the video clipping by “concealing the contextual intent and meaning” of his interview. He further claimed that the “sinister act” is done by the Congress leader with the sole intention to “fan and create confusion, sensation and disrepute” to him, reports NDTV.
Apart from sending the legal notice, the 66-year-old has asked Congress to delete the post “within 24 hours of receipt of this legal notice” and demanded a written apology within three days.
The controversial video of the BJP leader was posted on X, captioned, “Villages, labourers and farmers are unhappy today. Villages do not have roads, drinking water, good hospitals and schools — Nitin Gadkari, a minister in the Modi government”.
The BJP leader calling the video factually incorrect said that it was an “intentional attempt” by the Congress leaders to “insult and demean” him, “coupled with your intent to provoke members of the Bhartiya Janata Party to develop ideological rift”.
In the notice given to Congress, Gadkari also claimed that the clip had resulted in “big reputation damage, defamation and great loss of credibility”.
The Cabinet minister of Road Transport and Highways said that the Congress clipped the parts where he highlighted how much effort is being taken which has resulted in giving good outcomes in the tenure of the present union government.
The notice sent to Congress leaders mentions that failure to comply with any of the demands would leave them open to civil and criminal suits.
