Noida, Uttar Pradesh: Nine years after getting married to Vipin Bhati, a woman, identified as Nikki, was allegedly killed by her husband for dowry. The couple’s young son witnessed the gruesome incident where his father and his mother slapped the mother, put ‘something’ on her and set her on fire using a lighter, as per reports.

However, Bhati has denied responsibility for his wife Nikki’s death, saying that he has no regrets over the incident, claiming she died on her own. He also said that he had not killed her. Notably, the wife’s family has alleged that Bhati and his parents repeatedly tortured Nikki for dowry. While trying to escape from custody, the main accused husband in the Greater Noida dowry murder case, was shot in the leg during an encounter on Sunday.

Nikki’s father has alleged that she was killed by her in-laws over persistent dowry demands, asserting that her mother-in-law poured kerosene while her husband set her on fire.

The woman’s elder sister, who was also married to the same family, claimed that Nikki was burnt alive in front of her eyes. She said Nikki’s in-laws also assaulted her, demanding Rs 36 lakh in dowry.

She said they were being tortured, and their in-laws asked them to get the amount from their home. I was also assaulted between 1.30 am and 4 am on Thursday. “They told me, ‘We have got a dowry for one, what about the other? “You are better off dead. “We will marry again,” Nikki’s sister was heard saying in a widely shared social media post.

A video doing rounds on social media showed the woman sitting on the floor with severe burn injuries on her body. When she was taken to Fortis Hospital with the help of her neighbors, the hospital referred her to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi, but she lost her life on the way.

A case has been registered at Kasna police station against the victim’s husband, brother-in-law Rohit Bhati, mother-in-law Daya, and father-in-law Satveer in the complaint filed by Nikki’s sister.
