Kerala: Husband Arrested After 27-Year-Old Wife Found Hanging At Home, Domestic Abuse Suspected
Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala: Kerala police on Thursday, July 2, arrested a man for alleged abetment of suicide following the death of his 27-year-old wife. The deceased wife, identified as Vighneshwari, allegedly ended her life two days after the couple celebrated their second wedding anniversary. The woman was found hanging at their home in Vizhinjam, Thiruvananthapuram.
The incident took place when Vighneshwari was alone at home. Abhilash’s father, Chandran, arrived at the house to find it locked from the inside. When Vighneshwari did not respond to multiple phone calls, Chandran, with the assistance of a neighbour, broke open a window to check inside and discovered her body.

Though the relatives and locals rushed the young woman to the hospital, the doctor informed her that she had been dead for hours. Abhilash’s mother, Jayalakshmi, had been at her daughter’s house in Chennai for four months.
Chandran said that they had celebrated the couple’s wedding anniversary two days ago while denying any marital problems. The investigating officials have reportedly recovered a suicide note from the scene, which pointed out the enduring domestic abuse the woman was undergoing in the house.

The accused husband, identified as Abhilash, routinely returned home in an intoxicated state and subjected her to physical assault, forcing her to take the extreme step due to the resulting distress, the note remarked.
The police pointed out that the digital evidence retrieved from Vighneshwari’s mobile phone further corroborated the allegations of physical torture. Following the recovery of the suicide note and the digital records from Vighneshwari’s phone, Abhilash was formally arrested under charges of abetment of suicide, and further legal proceedings are underway.
