New Delhi: Following the tragic suicide of 34-year-old Atul Subhash, a case of abetment to suicide has been registered against his estranged wife, Nikita Singhania; mother-in-law, Nisha Singhania; brother-in-law, Anurag Singhania; and his wife’s uncle, Sushil Singhania.

On Monday, Atul Subhash was found dead at his residence in Bengaluru’s Marathahalli with a 24-page suicide note and a placard reading “Justice Is Due” in his room.
Subhash’s parents stated that he was under extreme duress and had to travel at least 40 times between Bengaluru and Jaunpur, in Uttar Pradesh, for court dates. Subhash had committed suicide alleging harassment by his estranged wife and her family.
“They tortured my son, they tortured us too. But my son took everything upon himself. He endured everything, he did not let us suffer. He kept burning inside,” said Atul’s mother, as quoted by NDTV.
In the complaint, Bikas alleged that the four people had filed a false case against Subhash following the divorce and insisted on paying Rs 3 crore as settlement. Bikas also alleged that Nikita had demanded Rs 30 lakh to allow him to visit his four-year-old son.
The Bengaluru techie accused his estranged wife and her family of harassing him and compelling him to take the drastic step. In a now-viral video uploaded on social media, he explained the reasons behind his action.

Subhash stated that he had married Nikita in 2019 after finding her on a matchmaking website. They had a son the following year. The techie alleged that his wife’s family would demand money, sometimes several lakhs. When he refused to give more, Nikita allegedly left their Bengaluru home with their son in 2021.
Based on his suicide note, he stated that she had filed a case against him and his family under several sections, including murder and unnatural sex. She alleged that he had demanded Rs 10 lakhs in dowry, the pressure of which killed her father with a heart attack.
In his death note, Subhash stated that her accusation was proven wrong as, during cross-examination, she confessed that her father was already suffering from a long-term illness, for which he was getting treated at AIIMS for years. The couple hurried their marriage as doctors had given her father a few months. The case was eventually withdrawn.
