Karnataka: Woman, 23, Allegedly Killed By In-Laws Over Dowry Demand

The victim's family alleged that the woman had been facing  continuous harassment from her husband Naveen’s family, pressuring her to bring money from her parental home.

Kalaburagi, Karnataka: Three years after marriage, a 23-year-old woman, Snehalatha, was found dead at her husband’s residence in Harasur village of Kalaburagi district in Karnataka.

The victim’s family alleged that the woman had been facing  continuous harassment from her husband Naveen’s family, pressuring her to bring money from her parental home. They alleged that Snehalatha was murdered by her in-laws over dowry demands, X handle hate detector reported.

Despite her family reportedly taking loans to meet earlier demands, the harassment is said to have continued. The victim’s parents claim that on Monday night, Snehalatha was assaulted and killed by her husband’s family members.

The victim’s family further alleged that the accused are attempting to cover the murder by making the death as a case of suicide. Family members also stated that Snehalatha had earlier informed them about the abuse, which reportedly began a few months after her marriage.

A village panchayat had recently intervened and sent her back to her husband’s home following a dispute. Police said a case has been registered at Mahagaon Police Station, and an investigation is underway.
