“Normalcy Along State Borders": Farmer Leaders To Centre As Crucial Meeting Scheduled For Tomorrow

Farmers from Punjab and Haryana remain camped out at Delhi-Haryana border entry points with their “Dilli Chalo” protest facing heavy security measures and denied entry to the national capital. Meanwhile, farmer leaders met virtually with central government representatives and a crucial meeting is scheduled for tomorrow.

The Delhi Police has deployed heavy security forces, erected barricades, and even scattered nails on roads to deter the farmers” march. Despite these measures, farmers remain resolute in their demands, which include solutions to long-standing issues like minimum support price for crops, and debt relief.

Following a virtual meeting, Farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal stated, “A long discussion was held today. But our priority was that normalcy should be restored along state borders.” He further confirmed receiving a letter from the central government inviting them for a meeting in Chandigarh tomorrow.

Earlier in the day, as the “Delhi Chalo” march entered its second day today, Union Minister Anurag Thakur has appealed to the protesting farmers to engage in constructive dialogue with the government, highlighting the successful resolution achieved through dialogue in various past instances. Thakur was referring to the recent return of eight Indian Navy veterans from Qatar, emphasising the power of communication in resolving complex issues.

“When Indian Navy veterans can be saved from the death penalty and brought back safely from Qatar, if 27,000 Indians can be rescued during the Ukraine war under Operation Ganga, if crores of Indians can be brought back during Covid… all of this has been achieved through dialogue. My request to our farmer brothers is to come and continue our dialogue,” Thakur said.

In a development, with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) examinations for classes 10 and 12 scheduled to commence tomorrow, the Board has issued a comprehensive advisory addressing concerns to the ongoing farmers’ protest in Delhi. Anticipating potential traffic disruptions and delays due to the protest, the CBSE has urged students and parents to plan their commute meticulously to ensure timely arrival at examination centers.
