The Nuh district administration denied permission to hold the Jalabhishek yatra, while the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) said that it would be held. Chief Minister Manohar Kattar said that, people could visit temples nearby for prayers as this is the month of sawan.

Nuh MLA Aftab Ahmed said that, while normalcy was being restored, the government and administrative authorities should make sure that it is not impaired, reported the Indian Express.

Citing law and order concerns by the police and the intelligence sources, the administration in Nuh has banned large gatherings.

“Permission has not been granted by district administration Nuh for Jalabhishek Yatra in district Nuh on 28/08/2023 and hence all are requested not to proceed towards Nuh for the Yatra,” Haryana Police had said on August 26.

“Looking at the kind of incident that happened there (Nuh) at the beginning of the month, it is the government”s duty to ensure that law and order in the area is maintained. Our police and administration have taken this decision that instead of carrying out a yatra, people should go to nearby temples and offer prayers. Permission for yatra is denied but people can go and offer prayers in nearby temples as it is Sawan month,” the Chief Minister told reporters, reported NDTV.

Further, he added, “everyone can perform jalabhishek in their respective local temples as it is Sawan. Due to the incidents that took place in Nuh in the past, permission has not been given to travel to maintain law and order”.

The Haryana government has also said that, section 144 of CrPC has been imposed. The internet services and bulk sms has been suspended in Nuh till Monday. The police said that, permission for the yatra has been denied following the violence last month and also because the G20 Sherpa group meeting is to be held from 3rd to 7th September in the district.

Last month, communal clashes in Nuh had claimed 6 lives, thus as a precaution, educational institutions and banks are to remain closed on 28 August.

“We have denied the permission for yatra. Still, some have said they will conduct the yatra. We have imposed Section 144,” Nuh Deputy Commissioner Dhirendra Khadgata said.

The Bajrang Dal, the youth wing of VHP has plans of holding the yatra under the banner, Sarva Hindu Samaj, and would start at 11 am from Nuh’s Nalhar Mahadev Mandir, and would end at Punhana, Singar Mandir at 4 pm.

DGP, Shatrujeet Kapur said that regular monitoring of social media would be taken up. Interstate borders are being strengthened, and incase of any incident, preventive measures in real time would be taken up.
