Patanjali Ayurved's All 14 Banned Products Still Available On Shelves: Report

The Supreme Court of India directed Patanjali Ayurved, on Tuesday morning, to provide evidence that it has halted the sale and advertisement of 14 products banned by the Uttarakhand licensing state department in April. The directive was reportedly issued to verify the company’s claims of informing all store owners, advertising outlets, and social media platforms to comply with the ban.

However, a recent report by the Hindustan Times reveals that when its reporters visited Patanjali stores across New Delhi, Lucknow, Dehradun, and Patna, they were able to find most of the banned products, which were easily available at the stores. On Tuesday and Wednesday, while not all 14 products were available in some shops, the reasons were reportedly a lack of availability. Notably, the store owners claimed that they could make the products available within seven days, as stated in the report.

Each of the 14 banned products was found in at least one store, according to the Hindustan Times.

On July 8, led by Justice Hima Kohli, the top court passed an order for Patanjali to submit proof of halting the sale and advertisements of the banned products. This came after the Uttarakhand government filed an affidavit informing the court that the ban issued on April 15 had been revoked on procedural grounds.

Patanjali’s lawyers, however, claimed that the company had not received an official communication about the revocation of the ban, and thus, Patanjali remained bound by the Supreme Court. The court also ordered the company to submit an affidavit on whether the request to intermediaries has been acceded to and whether the 14 Ayurvedic formulations have been withdrawn.

The affidavit is to be filed in two weeks, with a hearing scheduled for July 30.

However, as per the Hindustan Times, all 14 banned Patanjali products were found across several stores. When its correspondents visited the Patanjali stores, many of them were unaware of the cancellation of licenses, and the ones that were unavailable would be in stock within a week. One shopkeeper at the Patanjali Arogya Kendra in Lucknow’s Hazratganj, where they secured all 14 medicines, said, “All these medicines are available in bulk. We can even give you more than 10 strips of all of them.”

The 14 banned Patanjali products are listed as: Swasari Gold, Swasari Vati, Bronchom, Swasari Pravahi, Swasari Avaleh, Lipidom, BP Grit, Mukta Vati Extra Power, Madhunashini Vati Extra Power, Patanjali Drishti Eye Drop, Livogrit, Madhugrit, Eyegrit Gold, and Livamrit Advance.
