Prime Minister Narendra Modi interacted with Google CEO Sundar Pichai in a virtual meeting on Monday. During the interaction, Pichai discussed with PM Modi about the company’s plan to participate in the Indian electronics manufacturing ecosystem, the Prime Minister’s Office said.
Prime Minister appreciated Google’s partnership with Hewlett Packard (HP) to manufacture Chromebooks in India. In September this year, HP and Google had joined hands to manufacture Chromebooks in India at the Flex facility in Chennai. They have been manufacturing laptops and desktops at this facility for the last three years.
PM Modi also welcomed Google’s plans to open its global fintech operations centre at the Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT) in Gandhinagar. He also encouraged Google to work on AI tools for Good Governance.
While Pichai has informed the PM Google’s plan to improve financial inclusion in India by leveraging the strength and reach of Gpay and UPI. Prime Minister also invited Google to contribute to the upcoming Global Partnership on AI Summit, which will be hosted by India in December 2023 in New Delhi.
In December last year, the Google CEO met the Prime Minister during his visit to India. “”Was a delight to meet you @sundarpichai and discuss innovation, technology and more. It is important the world continues to work together to leverage tech for human prosperity and sustainable development,” Prime Minister posted on X.
