Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the world’s biggest workspace, the Surat Diamond Bourse today on December 17, 2023. This monumental complex will be regarded as the modern centre for trading both rough and polished diamond as well as jewellery.

It comprises a state-of-the-art ‘Customs Clearance House’ for import and export, a jewellery business and a facility for international banking and safe vaults.
This workspace is even larger than the Pentagon, the world’s largest office space for 80 years, as per CNN report. Apart from its size, the Surat Daimond Bourse sets itself apart with its cutting-edge facilities. It aims to become the definitive global hub for both rough and polished diamonds, serving as platforms for buyers and sellers from across the world.
Narendra Modi while announcing his arrival in Surat for the inauguration through his X handle also shared the images of the beautiful vast infrastructure of the Surat Daimond Bourse.
The infrastructure is built at a cost of approximately Rs 3,500 crore, the building spans 67 lakh square feet of floor space and has the capacity to house nearly 4,500 diamond trading offices. In August, the building was recognised by the Guinness World Records as the largest office building in the world.
It covers a constructed area of 6.7 million square feet and was completed in July at a cost of ₹ 32 billion. The US landmark, which opened in 1943, has an area of 6.5 million square feet. It has nine ground towers plus 15 floors, with office spaces ranging from 300 sq ft to 1 lakh sq ft. The nine rectangular towers are connected by a central spine. The building has a platinum ranking from the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC).
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also inaugurated the newly-upgraded terminal building of the Surat airport on Sunday. The terminal building at the airport is equipped to handle 1,200 domestic passengers and 600 international passengers during peak hours, reports the hindu.
