Puthuppally, the legislative assembly constituency of Kerala, is all set face a by-poll after the death of Oommen Chandy, former Kerala Chief Minister and the MLA who dominated the politics in the area for the past long 53 years. Chandy Oommen, the UDF candidate and son of Oommen Chandy, will submit his nomination papers on Thursday. Mr Ommen, as well as the party he is affiliated to, is expecting a record victory in Puthuppally.
Mr Oommen visited the tomb of his late father on Thursday. He went to the St George Orthodox Church in Puthuppally and offered prayers before filing the nomination.
“Dear ones, you have given lot of love and support to Appa [Oommen Chandy] all the time. With the confidence that, you will continue showering the same to me, I am going to file the nomination papers tomorrow”, wrote Mr Oommen on Facebook on Wednesday evening.
“Seeking everyone”s prayers and blessings…”, he added.
Mr Oommen will submit his nomination at Pampady Block Development Office in Pallickathodu in the district of Kottayam. Oommen Chandy was also used to file his nominations at the same office.
Jaick C Thomas, the candidate of the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) has already filed his nomination papers on Wednesday.
The Bharatiya Janatha Party (BJP) candidate Lijin Lal has submitted his nomination at Kottayam Revenue Divisional Office (RDO) on Wednesday.
The by-election is scheduled on 5 September.
