“Reality Exact Opposite”: Congress’ Jairam Ramesh On BJP’s “400 Paar”

BJP is claiming that this time they are going to cross 400 seats.

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh today slammed the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) for its ambitious “400 paar” target. He said that it is easy to give the slogan of “paar, paar”, however, the reality is the exact opposite.

Jairam Ramesh wrote on X: “In the 2017 Gujarat election, BJP”s slogan was “150 paar”, seats secured 99. In the 2018 Chhattisgarh election, the slogan was “50 paar”, and the seats secured were 15… In the 2019 Jharkhand assembly election, the slogan was “65 paar” but BJP got 25 seats. In the 2020 Delhi assembly election, the slogan was “45 paar”, but secured 8 seats. In the 2021 Tamil Nadu assembly election, the slogan was “118 paar” and secured seat 4.”

“It is easy to give the slogan of “paar, paar”, however the reality is the exact opposite,” he added.

For the Lok Sabha 2024 elections, BJP is claiming that this time they are going to cross 400 seats.

“When I am here ahead of the 2024 (Lok Sabha) elections, the entire country is echoing with one voice – “Abki Baar 400 Paar”,” PM Modi said while addressing a public gathering in Maharashtra”s Yavatmal region in February.

Congress leader Kanhaiya Kumar added that such claims are a “malicious attempt” to alter the reality and are reflective of the ruling party”s fear of defeat.

He wondered how the BJP is so confident about the NDA crossing the 400-figure mark in the Lok Sabha polls, asking if it is so then why is it inducting leaders who cannot win polls while in the Congress and are like “used cartridges”.

He said, “If one looks at it closely, this reflects the BJP”s frustration and its fear of defeat.”

Kumar then asked if anyone has heard that the Indian cricket team has gone to play a match with Australia and before the match they are saying, 400 paar? “They don”t say such a thing. They say that “we will play well and win the World Cup”,” he said.

“Suppose you are winning the match, then what is the point of bribing the Australian captain or taking along his retired players?” the former Jawaharlal Nehru University Students” Union president said.
