The BJP Uttar Pradesh unit appointed Sachin Ahlawat, an accused of the 2018 Siyana arson case, as the zonal president in Bulandarshahr.
Ahlawat was made the president of BB Nagar Mandal and he was also one among the 31 zonal presidents of the BJP in Bulandarshahr whose names where released last week.
In the violence that took place on December 3, 2018 alleging over cow slaughter, two persons including Siyana Station house officer Subodh Kumar Singh was killed.
The 38-year-old claimed innocence alleging that the case was falsely booked on him. According to Ahlawat, he had gone to to the spot to know what was happening as the incident took place in his village. “I was standing and watching the protest from a distance and a few people present at the spot were taking photographs and making videos. Police booked me because I was seen in the photographs and videos. Like me, several other residents of my village have been falsely booked in the case,” he said, reports Indian express.
Ahlawat claimed that he had suffered due to the false case booked on his name and said that he was given the position as the president of BB Nagar Mandal due to his hard work and long association with the BJP.
As per the case filed, it is alleged that Ahlawat tipped the prime accused, Yogesh Raj, the Bajrang Dal convener, about the cow slaughter incident. This led to a mob gathering at the site demanding action. But the accused claimed that the police has used his mobile to contact Raj.
Ahlawat who is currently on bail is charged with rioting, assault to deter public servant from discharging his duty among others.
BJP’s Bulandarshahr district president Vikas Chauhan too defended Ahlawat by saying Sachin was only present at the spot and defended his appointment, emphasising his long-term association with the party.
Tension escalated in Mahav village on December 3, 2018, after cow carcasses were allegedly found in a field. Around 50-60 villagers blocked the highways and protested demanding action against few Muslims accused of cow slaughter.
The Siyana police in charge, Subodh Kumar Singh while dismissing the violent mob, got brutally thrashed before he was shot with his service revolver. During the violence, one of the protestors was also killed.
