South Asian Countries Including India To Announce Eid AL-Adha Date Today

Muslims in South Asian countries are gearing up for the crescent moon-sighting that would determine Eid al-Adha. The crescent moon is expected to be easily visible in countries like India, Pakistan, Morocco, South Africa, Indonesia, and other far East countries, today evening, declaring the first day of the celebration.

As per the lunar calendar, or the Islamic calendar, June 7th marks 29th of Dhul Qadah (the Arabic month before Dhul Hijjah).

At the same time, Saudi Arabia, USA, UK, UAE, Canada, Australia, and some other Arab and Western countries declared Eid al-Adha on June 16, the as they sighted the moon on June 6, 2024.

After determining the first day of Dhul Hijjah, the 10 the day is celebrated as the Eid al-Adha. During this time, Hajj, the annual Islamic pilgrimage to Mecca takes place from 8th to 12th of Dhul Hijjah.

Eid al-Adha is one of the two festivals of Muslims. On this day, pilgrims and Muslims across the world perform the ritual of cattle sacrifice to commemorate the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son Ismail, as an act of obedience to Allah. The sacrifice also shows the willingness to make the ultimate sacrifice of what they love the most for the sake of Allah. While the prophet got ready sacrifice his beloved son, Allah asked him to sacrifice a goat instead.

Hajj ends on the 12th day of the Dhul Hijjah.

Dhul Hijjah is among the months considered as holy. The month is considered as the time of heightened devotion and acts of worship.
