Eid Al Adha Expected To Fall On June 6, Moon Expected On May 27

The Eid Al Adha is most likely to fall on Friday, June 6, as per the International Astronomical Centre (IAC). Engineer Mohammed Shawkat Odeh, director of the Abu Dhabi-based centre, stated that the moon sighting will be possible using telescopes in parts of Central and Western Asia, as well as most of Africa and Europe.

Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia had urged the Muslims to observe the crescent moon of Dhul-Hijjah on the evening of Tuesday. In a recent statement, the Saudi Supreme Court had urged anyone who sights the crescent moon, whether with the naked eye or through binoculars, to promptly report to the nearest court and submit their testimony.

As of now, Eid Al Adha is expected to begin on Friday, June 6, until Sunday, June 8. A four-day break could be likely for many, with Arafat Day set to take place on Thursday, June 5.

The first day of the Islamic month is expected to start on Wednesday, May 28. Eid al-Adha 2025 is a significant event in the UAE, marked by a four-day public holiday. This period brings Muslims together to celebrate their faith and engage in various religious observances.

Eid Al Adha, or the “Festival of Sacrifice,” marks the Qur’anic story of Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son in obedience to God. Before the act, God intervened and provided a ram instead. The occasion symbolises faith and devotion and is observed by Muslims worldwide. The festival coincides with the culmination of the Hajj pilgrimage in Mecca.
