With the digital media information explosion, the content creators each day are doing stories about events, public figures and other contentious issues across the topics. As a result, the media most often dive deep into the professional and personal lives of the public to present before the increasing number of news consumers. This has in many cases resulted in the legal fight between the public figures and the journalists or content creators.
In the latest event, Gurmeet Ram Rahim, the leader of the spiritual organization Dera Sacha Sauda has submitted a defamation suit against the journalist and Youtuber Shyam Meera Singh against a video created and spread by Shyam. In the video, Shyam argued that Rahim fooled his followers. However, the suit asked Shyam to delete the video uploaded on YouTube.
The detailed video that Shyam uploaded elaborated on the story of Gurmeet Ram Rahim, explaining how he manipulated the public and his followers. The video’s bio on the YouTube Channel says it uncovers the “manipulative tactics” used by the spiritual leader to deceive his followers. The video also talks about the chronological story of the evolution of Gurmeet, his conviction in the murder of the journalist, Ram Chander Chhatrapati and his tactics.
Shyam uploaded the video titled “How Gurmeet Ram Rahim Fooled His Bhakts” on December 17 on his YouTube Channel. According to reports, though Ram Rahim served a legal notice to Shyam, he refused to delete the video. When the issue came to court today, the court listed it for further hearing on Saturday. During the hearing today, Ram Rahim’s lawyer accused the video to be “defamatory and disparaging.”
In the court, Gurmeet’s layer also noted the background of Syam Meera Singh, saying that the news organization Aaj Tak fired Syam because he insulted Prime minster, Narendra Modi. It also pointed out that there is an FIR against him for insulting the Uttar Pradesh chief minister also.
However, Shyam was not represented in the court today and the hearing tomorrow in the Delhi High Court may reveal more about the nature of the case.
