Supreme Court Refuses K Kavitha’s Plea Challenging Her Arrest

Edited by Hiba Anvar

The Supreme Court of India has denied to take up the petition filed challenging the arrest of BRS leader K Kavitha. The BRS leader was arrested last week in the Delhi liquor policy case. A special bench consisting of Justices Sanjiv Khanna, MM Sundresh and Bela Trivedi denying the relief told to approach the trial court.

The bench refusing to take up the petition asked the BRS leader to follow a uniform policy and seek relief from the trial court. The court also added that it cannot allow people to directly approach the court just because they are politicians or can afford to approach the top court directly.

The bench has also issued a notice to the probe agency seeking its response in six weeks.

“The petition challenging the provisions will come up with the pending matters,” the bench told senior advocate Kapil Sibal, appearing for Kavitha.
After the hearing was over, Sibal said to the court in response to the order passed by the apex court, “History of this Court will be written, this will not be a golden period.”

Kavitha’s writ petition came up for hearing on Friday morning in the Supreme Court. Meanwhile, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was arrested hours after long questioning in his Delhi residence in relation to the liquor scam on Thursday night. According to The Indian Express, a three-judge Supreme Court bench will soon take up AAP leader’s plea against his arrest by ED.

K Kavitha, the daughter of former Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao was arrested in the alleged liquor policy scam by the Enforcement Directorate last Friday.

Including Kejriwal, this will be the third leader of the Aam Aadmi Party to get arrested in this case after his former deputy Manish Sisodia and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh.
