New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday, July 28, ordered the immediate release of all minors arrested in connection with the recent youth protest in Delhi as well as several states across the world. The protest led by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) recently forced the former union education minister to step down.

The notice was issued to the chief secretaries of Delhi , Maharashtra, Bihar, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, Bar and Bench reported.

A bench of Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant and justices Joymlaya Bagchi and V Mohana also directed that no coercive action be taken against protestors involved in the recent student protests in Delhi’s Jantar Mantar and various other States. The court underlined that the protection does not extend to those with criminal background. The top court further ordered that the digital data of the protestors recorded by the police shall not brought in public domain.

The court also proposed to constitute a high-powered committee to ensure a fair and independent probe into the allegations of excess force and violence by the police during the protest. The court also granted an opportunity for the Centre and the Delhi police to explain their version.
