Tamil Nadu chief minister MK Stalin on Friday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to reconsider the central government’s decision to celebrate the ‘Hindi Month’ valedictory function with the Golden Jubilee celebrations of Chennai Doordarshan on October 18. The event will be presided over by Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi.
Taking to X, Stalin said that celebrating Hindi Month in non-Hindi-speaking states is an attempt to “belittle other languages.” Highlighting the multilingual nature of the country, Stalin urged PM Modi to avoid holding Hindi oriented events in non-Hindi speaking events.

The DMK chief suggested that special events to celebrate local languages should be held in states that recognise the particular language to enhance the cordial relationship among the states.
“The Constitution of India does not grant national language status to any language. In a multilingual nation, celebrating Hindi Month in non-Hindi speaking states is seen as an attempt to belittle other languages. Therefore, I suggest that holding such Hindi-orientated events in non-Hindi speaking states could be avoided, and instead, the celebration of the local language month in the respective states should be encouraged.
