New Delhi: The central government has spent Rs 76.13 lake on print media advertisements for the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sang (RSS) centenary celebration event, a Right to Information (RTI) query has revealed.

The RTI application filed by activist Ajay Basudev Bose had sought information on government expenditure related to the 100-year of the RSS, the ideological wing of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

The RTI reply stated that the Ministry of Culture spent an amount of Rs 76,13,129 on advertisements given in various print media on the occasion of the completion of 100 years of RSS.

Notably, the RSS, founded in 1925, is an outfit that introduces itself as a body of individuals rather than a formally registered government wing, sparking debate about whether the government can spend on the organisation’s activities. The RSS has also faced scrutiny regarding its financial transparency and sources of funding.
