The Uttarakhand government has introduced a new provision in its excise policy for 2023-24 that allows taxpayers to set up mini-bars at home. However, there are certain conditions attached to this provision.
To be eligible for a home mini-bar license, applicants must have been filing income tax returns (ITRs) for the past five years and must pay an annual fee of Rs. 12,000. Once the license is issued, the holder is permitted to store up to nine liters of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL), 18 liters of foreign alcohol, nine liters of wine, and 15.6 liters of beer at home.
License holders must also submit an affidavit stating that the mini-bar will only serve alcohol for personal needs and will not operate as a commercial bar. Additionally, the bar must be closed on dry days, and no person under the age of 21 is allowed to enter the area where the bar is set up.
License renewals will only be granted after an inspection has been conducted.
