Two BJP Leaders In Uttarakhand Booked In Separate Sexual Abuse Cases

After the police in Uttarakhand arrested a BJP leader in connection with sexually abusing a woman yesterday, the state police booked another senior BJP leader in a separate case of rape and intimidation. In the latest case, the BJP leader from Nainital sexually abused a widow on multiple occasions since 2021 after promising her a permanent job.

The victim alleged that she approached Mukesh Bora, BJP leader and administrator of the Uttarakhand Cooperative Dairy Federation, in 2021, but he exploited her physically after promising her a permanent job in a city-based hotel. Since then, the accused has raped and threatened the victim multiple times.

“On November 10, 2021, BJP leader Mukesh Bora called me and asked me to meet him at the Jayka Hotel in Kathgodam. He said he would introduce me to someone who could help me get a permanent job. However, after I arrived, no one showed up,”  said the victim in her complaint, adding, alleged, “Bora then started touching me, and when I objected, he ignored my protests and forcibly raped me, promising me a permanent job.” The New Indian Express quoted the victim.

The woman also alleged that after some time, Mukesh Bora asked her to have physical relations with his friends too. However, as she refused to obey it, the BJP leader allegedly intimidated the woman with a death threat.

In another case, Bhagwat Singh Bora, BJP Mandal President of Salt Block in Almora district, was arrested by police for sexually abusing a 14-year-old girl. Notably, while the BJP expelled Bhagwat Singh Bora from the party following his arrest, the government has removed Mukesh Bora from his post as Administrator of the Uttarakhand Cooperative Dairy Federation. The actions followed severe criticism by the opposition Congress, demanding accountability from the state’s BJP government in the sexual assault cases.

The First Information Report (FIR) was registered under IPC sections 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation) (as the alleged incident took place before the BNS came into force) against both the saffron leaders.
