Despite the nationwide outcry since the Kolkata rape and murder, there have been several shocking sexual assualts emerging from across the country. In the latest horror, a 19-year-old nursing trainee was raped, allegedly by an auto-rickshaw driver, in Maharashtra’s Ratnagiri district on Monday night.
The incident happened when the teenager was heading home in an autorickshaw. The driver allegedly offered her water, which was mixed with drugs, took her to a secluded area, and raped while she was unconscious. The teenager is currently receiving treatment at a state-run hospital, NDTV reports.

After regaining her consciousness, the victim lodged a police complaint, and the police have registered an FIR and are examining the CCTV footage to identify the accused. The incident has sparked protests, with residents blocking a road for hours last night. The demonstrators are demanding immediate action in the case.
On August 25, Maharashtra police arrested a 42-year-old man for allegedly raping a 12-year-old girl in his neighborhood in Palghar after he committed the crime the day before. In another case, in Maharashtra’s Badlapur, two four-year-old girls were sexually assaulted at a school, allegedly by a school attendant.

On August 9, a 31-year-old doctor trainee was raped and murdered on her night duty at R. G. Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. The body was recovered from the seminal hall of the state-run hospital. Since then, there have been serious discussions on the safety of women in the country. The CBI has taken over the case and has been investigating the case.
