"Viable Pathway To Long-Term Peace": PM Modi Backs Donald Trump’s Gaza Initiative

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday welcomed U.S. President Donald Trump’s announcement of a comprehensive 20-point plan aimed at ending the Gaza conflict.

PM Modi expressed hope that all concerned parties would come together to support the initiative and work toward securing lasting peace in the region.

In a post on X, the Prime Minister said, “We welcome President Donald J. Trump’s announcement of a comprehensive plan to end the Gaza conflict. It provides a viable pathway to long-term and sustainable peace, security and development for the Palestinian and Israeli people, as also for the larger West Asian region.” He further added, “We hope that all concerned will come together behind President Trump’s initiative and support this effort to end conflict and secure peace.”

The plan, unveiled jointly by President Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on September 29, seeks to establish Gaza as a “deradicalised, terror-free zone” and pledges redevelopment for the benefit of its people, who have suffered extensively during the ongoing conflict. It also proposes a temporary governing board for Gaza, to be headed by Trump and including former British Prime Minister Tony Blair.

While Israel has welcomed the plan, the acceptance of its terms by Hamas remains uncertain. The militant group has previously resisted disarmament, a key demand of Netanyahu, making implementation dependent on continued diplomatic efforts.

The Trump initiative has also received cautious endorsement from eight Muslim-majority states. The foreign ministers of Qatar, Jordan, the UAE, Indonesia, Pakistan, Türkiye, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt issued a joint statement praising the U.S. efforts and affirming their readiness to engage constructively to finalise and implement the agreement in a manner that ensures peace, security, and stability for the region.
