"We Have Learnt Valuable Lessons From The Mistakes . . .": Congress

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge called Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting on Thursday at party”s headquarters in New Delhi. This is the first meeting the party held after the Congress”s defeat in the recent assembly elections in five states.

The meeting was attended by Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi, former party chief Rahul Gandhi, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi, Congress’ General Secretary in charge of communication Jairam Ramesh and other senior leaders of the party. The main objective behind the meeting was to discuss party”s strategies and preparedness for upcoming Lok Sabha polls.

Congress Chief Mallikarjun Kharge shared some excerpts from his opening remarks in the meeting on his X handle. The party agrees that the outcomes of the recent assembly polls, except in Telangana was discouraging. Congress President then adds that, along with Rahul Gandhi, he had interacted with leaders from the Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Manipur in order “to conduct a preliminary analysis of the election results and identified the reasons for our disappointing performance.”

Continuing further, he pointed out that despite the disheartening results, the votes share in the states act as a positive indicator and “a definite hope” that things can certainly turn around if given proper attention. “We have learnt valuable lessons from the mistakes we have made and are committed to avoiding a recurrence of them,” he added.

Citing fourth INDIA Alliance meeting held on December 19, he says that in today”s meeting party unanimously agreed that seat sharing process with Alliance parties must start immediately. In order to engage with the parties belong to different states, a five-member National Alliance Committee has been established, he said.

Besides, a resolution expressing concern over the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) manipulation has also passed.

“Lok Sabha Elections are not too far, we don’t have much time left. I would urge everyone to concentrate on actionable points and the necessary steps that can be taken for the upcoming General elections,” he concluded.
