An Andhra Pradesh minister’s wife reprimanded a police officer for making her wait while she was on her way to an event. The video of the incident is now viral.

The incident took place in Annamayya district in erstwhile Kadapa when Andhra transport minister Mandipalli Ramprasad Reddy’s wife Haritha Reddy was travelling to a local function for distribution of enhanced pensions to beneficiaries.

Seated in the car’s passenger seat, the video showed her questioning a sub-inspector for making her wait 30 minutes.

“Why are you late and isn’t it morning yet for you? I had to wait half an hour for you. Even SI is busy with a video conference? Who pays your salary? Government or YSRCP?” she scolded him while he listened silently.

The video concludes with the officer saluting Haritha Reddy and proceeding as she instructed him to lead the convoy.

Unlike a minister, a minister’s wife is not entitled to receive a police escort or any formal protocol.

The YSR Congress Party has criticised the conduct of the minister’s wife, highlighting the incident on social media.

“The minister’s wife also wants royal etiquette. Minister Ramprasad Reddy’s wife, Rubabu, asked the police to come as her escort in Rayachoti. The minister’s wife, who gave the warning by looking at the police, as slaves. The panicked police… Salutations to her in a helpless state,” the party posted on X in Telugu.

There has been no response yet from the government regarding this matter.
