Mumbai-based actor and model Kadambari Jethwani alleged that she and her family members were arrested illegally by three senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officers of Andhra Pradesh police in an attempt to save a Mumbai corporate giant against whom she had filed a sexual harassment case.

The Andhra Pradesh government suspended the three officers, including a Director General (DG), for their alleged involvement in the wrongful arrest and harassment of Jethwani without conducting a proper investigation.

Former Intelligence Chief P. Sitharama Anjaneyulu (DG rank), former Vijayawada Police Commissioner Kranti Rana Tata (Inspector General rank), and former Deputy Commissioner of Police Vishal Gunni (Superintendent rank) were suspended on Sunday.

The three officials were suspended under Rule 3(1) of the All India Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1969. As per an inquiry conducted, Anjaneyulu booked flights for the others to Mumbai to arrest the actor without proper written instructions or due investigation. The officers are also accused of carrying out an arrest even before an FIR was registered, reported The News Minute.

Jethwani filed a complaint in August with NTR Police Commissioner S.V. Rajasekhar Babu. She accused the officers of conspiring with K.V.R. Vidyasagar, a YSR Congress Party leader and film producer, who had filed a forgery and extortion case against her back in February. The actor/model further alleged that the officers and Vidyasagar harassed her and her parents and had them arrested and taken from Mumbai to Vijayawada without prior notice. They were subjected to 40 days in judicial custody, she said.

Jethwani, in an NDTV exclusive, alleged that the arrest and seizure of her mobile phone and other electronic devices were illegal and were “deprivation of democratic and human rights.” Calling the arrest “carefully timed,” Jethwani emphasised that it occurred when her sexual harassment case was to be heard in Mumbai and the case would be closed in her absence.

The Mumbai actor alleged that the YSR Congress Party leader fabricated the land documents used to frame her for extortion. She stated that neither she nor her family had ever visited Andhra Pradesh. The actor further alleged that the officials in question did not allow them to file a bail plea for several days.
