"Submerged In Water": YSRCP On Naidu's "Illegal" Residence

As Telangana and Andhra Pradesh face torrential downpour and flood-like situations, at least 27 people have been killed in rain-related incidents in both the states. The Telangana government has decided to establish a Telangana Disaster Response Force for similar situations in the future.

Amidst this, sharing a video, the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) said that Andhra Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s Lingamaneni Guest House is submerged in water. “The structure, which has often been in the limelight for its location and grandeur, is now clearly seen being threatened by the surging waters, painting a stark picture of vulnerability in the face of natural calamities,” stated the party.

“As a matter of fact, the residence is constructed on riverbed and termed as illegal,” said the party who further stated that the state chief minister is setting a “dangerous precedent” by continuing to live in an “illegal structure.” The YSRCP, led by YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, stated that the despite issuing notices to Naidu in the past, the warnings went “unheeded as he chose to continue living in the house.”

Naidu’s residence is situated in a low-lying area along the banks of the Krishna River. A similar incident happened in August 2019 when water levels of the river threatened to destroy the houses along its banks. Then leader of opposition in the Andhra Assembly, Naidu, was served a notice by the state officials to vacate his residence due to a flood situation.

At the time, Nara Lokesh, the Telugu Desam Party’s (TDP) son, alleged that the then YSRCP government was manipulating floods to ensure that Naidu vacated his residence, as per The News Minute.

On Monday, Naidu visited flood-affected regions in and around Vijayawada, assuring support to the people stuck in water-logged streets. The state recorded over 28.5 cm of rainfall on Sunday. Naidu further added that around 17,000 people have been evacuated to relief camps.

The torrential downpour has been caused due to a depression over the north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha coasts, which moved northwestwards and crossed Andhra Pradesh’s coast near Kalingapatnam on Sunday.
