At least 25 people have been killed in rain-related incidents in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh after the two states witnessed heavy downpours for the second day on Monday.
Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy held an emergency review meeting on Sunday to address the issue. A special control room at the State Secretariat has been set up to monitor the situation. The Disaster Management Department has opened the control room with phone number 040-23454088.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu visited the flood-affected areas in the city of Vijayawada and areas around it till 3 am. Reportedly, around 1,11,259 hectares of agricultural crops and 7,360 hectares of horticulture crops were affected. The state recorded over 28.5 cm of rainfall on Sunday.
Naidu further added that around 17,000 people have been evacuated to relief camps. Nearly 140 trains have been cancelled, while 97 were diverted on Sunday by the Secunderabad-headquartered South Central Railway (SCR) zone.
The districts of Mahabubnagar and Nalgonda witnessed lakes, tanks, and streams overflowing and cutting off villages in the region.
The torrential downpour has been caused due to a depression over the north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha coasts, which moved northwestwards and crossed Andhra Pradesh’s coast near Kalingapatnam on Sunday.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert yesterday for very heavy rainfall to extremely heavy rainfall in regions including Rajanna Sircilla, Vikarabad, Adilabad, Sangareddy, Nizamabad, Mahabubnagar, Yadadri Bhuvangiri, and Kamareddy until Monday morning.
The central government has deployed 26 National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams for relief and rescue operations in both states. While 12 have already been deployed, 14 more teams are being dispatched, as per reports.
