Amid the alleged anti-Hindu violence in Bangladesh, a hospital in Kolkata has announced that it would cease treating the patients from the neighboring country indefinitely. The decision of the JN Ray Hospital, located in Kolkata’s Manicktala area, was announced by Subhranshu Bhakt, a hospital authority.
A statement issued by the hospital cited “insult towards India” as the reason for its move against Bangladeshi patients. The decision comes on the heels of an alleged attack on Hindu temples amid the ongoing unrest in Bangladesh. The fresh tension started when Hindu monk Chinmoy Das was arrested by the police following allegations that the monk disrespected the national flag during a rally in Chittagong.

As the monk was denied bail, a violent protest erupted, resulting in the death of a lawyer and the alleged attack on several temples. The Hindu spiritual organization Iskcon was alleged to be behind the violent protest, and a campaign was then called out to ban the outfit. Notably, as the Bangladesh government labelled the outfit as a fundamentalist organisation, the High Court on Thursday refused to ban the group, saying that the current situation does not warrant such a step.

The Iskcon has refuted the allegations of its link with the violent protest that erupted after the arrest of the Hindu monk. Following the recent developments, there have been reports of attacks on the minority in Bangladesh, with some news portals reporting alleged stone pelting at some temples, though there was no major damage so far.
Explaining a scenario, a temple committee member, Tapan Das, said a procession of hundreds of people arrived after Juma prayers, shouting anti-Hindu and anti-ISKCON slogans. “We called the Army when the situation worsened, and order was eventually restored,” Das said as quoted by several media houses.
