The murder of reputed journalist Gauri Lankesh came as a shock to many. She was shot dead right outside her house by two motorcycle-borne assassins on September 5. Gauri was known to be a critic of right-wing Hinduism. Indeed, Gauri’s murder was looked at as a death of democracy and freedom of speech.
Actor Prakash Raj, a close friend of Gauri on Thursday penned a heartfelt message on X. Sharing a throwback photo with Gauri and Kavitha Lankesh, he wrote, “We miss you Gauri..… but “we have not buried you.. we have sowed you ”. You are an inspiration..and yes, we promise.. we will never let your VOICE be missed”.

Prakash Raj who shared a special bond with Guari, after hearing the news of her demise said that it was like losing family.
“This is such nonsense. I knew Gauri for 30 years. In a sense, we were all children of (P) Lankesh, his ideologies, and way of life. I never dreamt that this day would come. We were taught to be honest citizens, who would never cease to raise one’s voice. In fact, I don’t think anyone voiced their opinion more than P Lankesh himself. This was how we were taught to be. It is astonishing to see where we have come to today. One cannot imagine that this is how intolerant one can be. Where is the freedom of expression?” he has asked then.
