‘I Never Felt Like I Was Doing A Job..’: Night Watchman At Osmania University Bags Two Government Jobs

Edited by Uzma Parveen

A 31-year-old, Golle Praveen Kumar, a night watchman at Osmania University inspired the youth struggling to achieve their dreams by securing two government jobs.

Praveen’s dedication and hard work finally bore fruit as he starts to transition from guarding the university premises to teaching in a government institution. Parveen has received an appointment letter for a postgraduate teacher’s position and has also been selected for the final list of Junior Lecturers (JL).

Thanks to these appointments, Praveen now holds the prestigious role of a higher secondary school teacher, with hefty monthly salary packages that range from about Rs 73,000 to Rs 83,000.

Praveen’s rise to success is especially motivational considering his lowly beginnings. In a little village in the Macherial district, his mother works as a beedi worker and his father is a mason.

Despite the financial challenges, Praveen never allowed anything to become a barrier to his dream and remained steadfast in his pursuit of academic and professional excellence.

“I never felt like I was doing a job. I had a room, access to books and material, and time to study. And that’s all that mattered,” Kumar said. He also said that he opted for the night watchman post at the Educational Multimedia Research Center on the Osmania University campus so that he could get additional time to focus on his studies during the day.

Reportedly, Kumar has higher educational degrees such as BEd, MEd, and MCom, yet he chose to work as a night guard. Notably, he chose this line of work to maximize the time he had available to study for and get ready for the government tests.
