Shajan Skariah, the controversial editor of Malayalam news portal Marunadan Malayali, has been arrested by the Thrikkakara police in Ernakulam. Mr Skariah was arrested in a forgery case.
The case at Thrikkakara police station is to a fake BSNL bill that he allegedly submitted to the Registrar of Companies as address-proof while registering his media house.
Mr. Skariah, who is famous for the Marunadan Malayali news portal and YouTube channel, appeared at the Nilambur police station this morning after the Kerala High Court gave him an ultimatum against skipping interrogation in a case to a video he aired. He was accused of spreading communal tension in this case. The court had warned him that non-compliance of the order could result in the cancellation of his anticipatory bail. According to reports, he was questioned at the police station and was allowed to leave later.
The forgery case was registered after a Delhi resident filed a complaint to the chief minister of Kerala by directly sending an email.
