
Resembled Dairy Brand Milma's Name, Logo, Court Imposes Rs 1 Crore Fine On Milnna (Photo on X@GreatKerala1)
Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala: Thiruvananthapuram Principal Commercial Court recently imposed slapped a fine of Rs 1 crore on a private dairy firm, Milnna, for marketing its products imitating Kerala’s own dairy brand Milma’s name and design. The action was taken against the private dairy firm for resembling the name and logo of the state owned brand.
The Court imposed the fine for infringing the trademark and packaging design. While directing the company to pay a fine of Rs 1 crore, six percent penalty interest, the court asked them to pay Rs 8,18,410 as court fees. It further banned the entity from selling any milk or milk products or allied products using trademarks or product packaging similar to Milma’s.

KS Mani, the current chair of the Milma, expressed his happiness over the favourable verdict, underlining that strict action will be taken if there are any acts that tarnish Milma’s brand image and deceive customers.
The chairperson further urged customers to be careful while purchasing, and asked them to use only quality products distributed by the Kerala Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation, known by its trade name Milma. Headquartered in the state capital, Thiruvananthapuram, Milma is a state government cooperative society established in 1980, and owned by the Ministry of Cooperation, Government of Kerala.

Earlier too, Milma had taken actions against the brand’s fake imitators. In 2022, Milma initiated legal action against two private dairies for imitating its name and design in their milk and allied products’ packaging.
