Kerala BJP Demands CBI Probe Into Alleged Financial Irregularities Linked To Messi & Team's Proposed Kerala Visit
The BJP in Kerala on Friday demanded a CBI investigation into alleged procedural and financial irregularities in the previous LDF government’s plan to bring Argentina football player Lionel Messi and the national team to the State.
BJP leader S Suresh asked chief minister V D Satheesan hand over the investigation into the allegations to the Central agency while addressing a gathering today, August 14.
Alleging major fraud in the financial dealings in the matter, the BJP leader pointed out that the matter is pending before the chief minister. Suresh claimed that the sponsor had signed the agreement for the Argentina team’s proposed visit and later amended it without the State government’s knowledge.
The BJP leader then alleged that when a USD 4-million penalty was imposed for violation of the contract, the state government had written to the Argentine ambassador saying the penalty would affect the State’s financial position.
