Ernakulam, Kerala: The Kerala High Court on Wednesday granted bail to six juvenile students who were allegedly involved in the murder of a class 10 student, Muhammed Shahabas. The 15-year-old died on March 1 after being brutally attacked by fellow students on February 27, following a clash at a farewell party at a tuition centre in Thamarassery, Kozhikode.
Following the death of the teenager, police booked the juveniles for murder under Sections 103(1) (murder), 126(2) (wrongful restraint), 189 (unlawful assembly), 191(2), 191(3) (rioting), 118(2) (voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt) and 190 of BNS. The victim allegedly succumbed to the attacks by the accused.

While granting bail, Justice Bechu Kurian Thomas noted that the Juvenile Justice Act does not allow the continued stay of juveniles in the observation home. Earlier, the court had denied bail to the accused students. The bail was granted with a bond of Rs 50,000, and the parents must sign an affidavit stating that the students will cooperate with the investigation, and no attempt must be made to influence witnesses.
The bail conditions also include that he should not commit similar crimes, should not leave the country, and should not be allowed to come into contact with people of criminal nature.

Earlier, there were protests led by activists from Youth Congress, KSU and MSF against allowing the accused students to attend the SSLC exams. However, the students wrote the exam under police protection.
