Malappuram, Kerala: A 35-year-old woman named Asma tragically lost her life hours after giving birth to a baby boy – her fifth delivery during a home delivery at her rented residence without medical supervision. Asma’s family alleged her husband, Sirajuddin, of negligence and deliberate denial of medical care. He is currently at the centre of a police investigation.

As per the police reports, on Saturday evening, around 6 pm, Asma gave birth to their to a baby boy in their rented home. Three hours later, she was found unresponsive but her husband refused to seek medical help when Asma went into labour. The reports claims that she called an ambulance only after she died. Following, he took the body to her family at Perumbavoor in Ernakulam for burial.

Asma’s family raises serious allegations against Sirajuddin, claiming that he failed to take her to the hospital in time, even though she was suffering from heavy bleeding. Since the family informed the police, they reached the house and redirected the body to Perumbavoor Taluk Hospital for postmortem.

According to police reports, the couple had been living in a rented house in East Kodur. Sirajuddin, a traditional religious healer by profession, runs a religious YouTube channel named ‘Madavoor Qafila’.

Her family claimed that only two first of her five deliveries took place in a hospital. They accuse that, considering Asma’s age and previous complications,they repeatedly warned from family and medical experts about the risks of a home birth. But Sirajuddin stressed on avoiding hospitals, pointing personal beliefs and previous home birth experiences.

The mishap has once again opened brought attention to dangers of home births without medical supervision.
