Bihar: In Nishad Vs Nishad, BJP Fields Former Rival Raj Bhushan Chaudhary In Muzaffarpur

Edited by Fathimathu Shana

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) cancelled ticket of the sitting MP, Ajay Nishad from Muzaffarpur, the only seat in North Bihar. Instead, the party gave ticket to Raj Bhushan Chaudhary Nishad. During the 2019 Lok Sabha election, he contested on Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP) ticket, as a rival to BJP’s Ajay Nishad.

Bhushan Chaudhary is a doctor by profession. He entered into politics in 2017, after he came in contact with Mukesh Sahni, the founder of VIP. After losing the 2019 election, he left VIP and joined BJP. BJP is really trying to test the water here as during the last Lok Sabha election, Ajay Chaudhary defeated Raj Bhushan Chaudhary over the margin of 4 lakh votes. To replace Ajay and field Raj Bhushan appears to be a risky move. However, the party is confident in Raj Bhushan. The central leadership of BJP believe that Ajay’s win was not by his works but due to the influence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s popularity, as reported by media. Meanwhile, Ajay Chaudhary quit BJP and joined Congress accusing BJP of betrayal.

Muzaffarpur will go to polls on May 20, the fifth phase of the ongoing Lok Sabha election, which is arranged to be complete in seven phases. This year too, the competition will be between two Nishads. And same as last Lok Sabha election, it is between Ajay Nishad and Raj Bhushan Chaudhary Nishad. While Raj Bhushan is contesting on BJP ticket, the Indian National Congress gave ticket to Ajay Nishad. The election is going to be a tough battle as the rivalry between the two candidates become stronger as they changed the party.
