BJP National President Jagat Prakash Nadda has announced a 2-member election manifesto committee for the Lok Sabha elections 2024 today. The committee will be headed by defence minister and former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh Rajnath Singh. Apart from the veteran BJP leader, finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman will be the convener of the manifesto committee and commerce minister Piyush Goyal will be the co-convener. The committee also has cabinet ministers Bhupender Yadav, Dharmendra Pradhan, Smriti Irani, Kiren Rijuju, Arjun Munda, Arjun Ram Meghwal, Rajeev Chandrashekhar and Ashwini Vaishnaw.
The committee also has current BJP chief ministers Bhupender Patel (Gujarat), Hemanta Biswa Sarma (Assam), Vishnu Deo Sai (Chhattisgarh) and Mohan Yadav (Madhya Pradesh) as the members.
Rajnath Singh was given the responsibility of election manifesto during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. He had formed 15 sub committees then to design the manifesto for the elections, in which BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) emerged victorious under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Then manifesto of BJP had the promises about abrogation of article 370, Ram Temple, Citizenship Amendment Act, Uniform Civil Code, doubling farmers income and strengthening BSF and countering infiltration.
Apart from the union ministers and chief ministers, BJP”s manifesto committee also has former chief ministers Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Vasundhara Raje, former Bihar deputy chief minister Sushil Modi and former Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) vice chancellor Tariq Mansoor. Mr Mansoor was made AMU VC during BJP’s tenure in centre. According to a release from BJP, Mr Mansoor had worked extensively to promote Dara Shikoh and Hindu Muslim syncretism, and he is the only Muslim member in the team.
