BJP's Govind Muktappa Karjol Wins Chandrappa Constituency

Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Govind Muktappa Karjol has won the Chitradurga Constituency securing 48,121 votes majority. The BJP candidat defeated the Congress’ BN Chandrappa. Govind Muktappa Karjol is the former Deputy Chief Minister and Dalit leader. The party had carefully chosen the Dalit leader for the SC Reserved constituency.

The seat is presently being represented by Union Minister of State A. Narayanaswamy. In the last general elections, A. Narayanswamy of BJP won the elections with 50.26 percent share defeating Chandrappa of Congress who secured 43.82 percent votes.

The 8 assembly seats of Chitradurga include Molakalmur, Chitradurga, Hiriyur, Hosadurga, Holalkere, Challakere, Pavagada and Sira. During the last assembly elections, 7 seats were won by the Congress and 1 by BJP. The total number of voters in the constituency is 18,56,876.

Going by the national trend, as counting enters the last minutes, the NDA is leading in 294 constituencies while the INDIA bloc is trailing behind with 238.
