In a close fight in Odisha’s Jajpur constituency, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Rabindra Narayan Behera won by a narrow margin of 1587 votes. Though sitting Biju Janata Dal (BJD) MP Sarmistha Sethi has shown leads, she relegated to the second position. While Behera received 5,34,239 votes, Sethi got 5,32,652 votes.
Rabindra Narayan Behera is an academician and holds a Doctorate degrees.
Meanwhile, Indian National Congress (INC) candidate Anchal Das secured the third position. In Odisha’s electoral landscape, the Jajpur Constituency stands as the sole bastion currently led by the BJD.
Sarmistha Sethi is a dedicated Indian politician and social servant. She holds Post Graduate degree, and Sethi’s career includes significant contributions in social service and her role as a Member of Parliament. Her total declared assets amount to Rs 4.7 crore, consisting of Rs 1.6 crore in movable assets and Rs 3.1 crore in immovable assets. Her total declared income is Rs 34.7 lakh.
In the 2019 Assembly Election, BJD secured 7 MLA seats in Jajpur (SC) Constituency.
Sarmistha Sethi of BJD won the 2019 Lok Sabha elections with 5,42,476 votes, defeating BJP’s Amiya Kanta Mallick by a margin of 1,04,305 votes. As per 2014, Rita Tarai of BJD emerged victorious with 5,40,877 votes, surpassing INC’s Asok Das by a margin of 3,20,007 votes.
